The Lyric is a historic, non-profit theater and premier live entertainment venue in Baltimore, presenting a variety of music, dance, comedy, and educational programming.
General Responsibilities:
Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and financial sustainability of the organization. This role ensures the successful execution of the theater’s mission through dynamic educational programming, preservation of its historic venue, overseeing robust fundraising efforts, and effective supervision of key department directors. The Chief Executive Officer serves as the primary ambassador of the theater, fostering relationships with donors, public officials, community leaders, and patrons.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Organizational Management
Develop and implement long-term strategic plans in collaboration with the Board of Trutees.
Lead and supervise the senior leadership team, including the Directors of Booking, Production, Marketing, Finance, Education, Community Outreach and Governmental Affairs.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven organizational culture.
Educational Programming
Oversee the development and execution of innovative and accessible educational programs.
Ensure alignment of educational initiatives with the theater’s mission and community needs.
Cultivate partnerships with schools, educators, and cultural institutions.
Historic Building Stewardship
Ensure the preservation, maintenance, and enhancement of the theater’s historic facility.
Oversee capital improvement projects and ensure compliance with preservation standards and safety regulations.
Fundraising & Financial Development
Lead all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, annual campaigns, grants, sponsorships, special events, sponsorships and facility naming rights.
Secure public funding, including bond initiatives, through advocacy and relationship-building with government entities.
Collaborate with the Director of Finance to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.
Public Relations & Community Engagement
Serve as the public face of the theater, representing the organization at events, in the media, and within the community.
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including donors, patrons, artists, educators, and civic leaders.
Qualifications:
- Proven executive leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit, arts, or cultural organization.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, including securing public and private funding.
- Experience managing historic properties or capital projects is highly desirable.
- Strong background in arts education or community programming.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to lead and inspire a diverse team and community.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in arts administration, nonprofit management, or related field preferred.
